Thanks for visiting my corner on the web. I'm David. It's very nice to meet you!
I’m a strategic and innovative leader in brand marketing, standards development, positioning, design, content and operations — and with over 17 years of experience in the marketing industry, including seven years at Apple Canada as Creative Manager and Producer, I’d love to bring my experience to your team.
Between 2011 and 2018, I worked on the Apple Canada Marketing Communications team. As Creative Manager and Producer, I led large launch projects and brought Apple campaigns to life in the Canadian market through major retailer channels, in both bricks-and-mortar and online environments.
Bell, Rogers, Best Buy, Staples and smaller regional partners like Jump Plus and Videotron were my focus. It was my responsibility as creative manager to work cross–functionally with internal Apple teams, vendors (printers, translation agencies and managed production agencies), and the partners themselves.
I provided real-time creative direction for executions for in-store displays, window graphics, large format displays, as well as for online communications through websites, asset kits, email templates and custom seasonal campaigns.
I was lead Creative Manager for the following products during both product launch workshops and during sustaining periods — iPhone, iPad, Mac, HomePod, AppleTV, Apple Music and Apple Pay.
I provided creative direction to partners on how to effectively use Apple assets and artwork on partners’ websites and in other digital channels.
I made sure all communication followed creative brand guidelines. I created production-ready artwork mechanicals for partners using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Apple Keynote to present these ideas. These helped partners implement the creative onto digital channels within hours of asset handoff — even on the same day as the launch event. The best practices that I developed were rolled out to other geographic regions.
I ensured effective product communication was provided to Apple’s retailers and created experiences that captivated and drew in the customer — surprise & delight. During new product launches, I led the creation of up to 1,400 individual pieces of artwork and managed the production, printing and distribution of these materials.
With guidance from Apple worldwide creatives in California, I led a team of artists to create unique Apple product spaces in retailers ensuring that each piece was designed according to appropriate brand standards in the Canadian market.
During iPhone 6 workshop, a request came from Apple Canada leadership to conceptualize and create a large window takeover of the TELUS head office store located in downtown Toronto. I was tasked to complete the conceptualization, planning, designing and procuring of this large graphic at the corner of York St. and Bremner Ave. in Toronto.
Weeks of planning, collaborating with the worldwide creatives and the TELUS team had resulted in what was qualified to be the Guinness Book of World Record holder for largest LED-Backlit fabric sign (naturally, Apple decided not to apply for that recognition).
The fabrication of the frames and fabric sign was done in Los Angeles, CA, and trucked to Toronto, just in time for the iPhone 6 launch day event. This was the first co-branded large-format out-of-home execution in Canada.
Outside of product launch campaigns, another responsibility I had was to guide partners with their seasonal campaigns with not only creative but with their marketing messaging as well. This included in-store signage and social media campaigns. When SportChek became a partner with Apple Watch, I led the partner onboarding process and helped them with their Instagram social media campaign.
Throughout my time at Apple, I was the sole person on staff with a graphic design background. I was tasked with helping internal colleagues with presentations and was the creative resource for many others on the marketing and sales teams.
I’ve had the opportunity and pleasure of working with a wide variety of companies at various capacities, including Investors Group Private Wealth Management, Jump+, DynaPulse Marketing, Evolv6 and St Joseph Communications content agency. Aside from being a creative manager, I have taken on roles like graphic designer, project manager, brand manager and operations manager.
As a Production Project Manager at St Joseph Communications, I’ve managed a wide variety of projects for clients including Leons Furniture, Sealy Canada, Artcraft Lighting and Highland Farms.
I was hired on contract with Investors Group as a Production Project Manager. Much of the role was to ensure creative timelines were established and that artists received the appropriate creative direction.
As an Apple alumnus, Jump Plus contacted me to help them with design services. Projects included new store opening graphics, a new website, curating their social media feeds on Instagram and Facebook, as well as store signage to promote seasonal campaigns.
While studying at Seneca College, I had the opportunity to intern at the environmental graphic design firm Entro Communications. I gained valuable schematic skills allowing me to rebrand the York Regional Transit livery.
